Population Four

Population Four

Hey world. I know its 'Blue Monday' and everything (god knows I think I'm having the bluest of all) but I have something to lighten the mood. To make you smile. To make you do a little dance at your desk and decide you want to marry a rock and roll star. Yes ladies and gents… I bring you the video for This Town Will Drag You Down by those Preston babes, Population Four.

Okay, so I might be a little biased having seen Population Four's bare-knuckled hard graft in their quest to make a name for themselves, I remember when they won a Battle Of The Bands contest at The Venue where I used to work in Preston, and I knew (because I'm a music journalist and a wise old owl) that they would do their parents proud one day, and so they have.

Filmed by my good friend Mike at Mycho Pictures, Population Four's first time foray into the land of the music video is textbook Kerrang! It shows the band playing a gig (to no-one actually) and jiving it up on stage, interspersed with a few black and white clips of them doing random things in their daily lives. As well as a few shots of their mates - namely local snapper Joe Ivers - who they brought along for the ride.

I know it's often hard for a 'local' band to break out of that stigma and into the mainstream, but with a support slot to Twin Atlantic at 53 Degrees, Preston next month, I hope that someone with a bag full of stardust (not THAT kind of stardust you saucy minx) will pick them up and shoot them into the musical stratosphere.

Check out the video and get a bit of a man-crush on Rick, Daff, Ceres, Simon and Cooko.
