Celebrated Jewish singer Jo Amar has died of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was 79.
The Morocco-born entertainer, a popular performer in Jewish communities around the world, passed away on 29 June after several months of ill health.
He emigrated to Israel in 1956 and quickly became a star in the country - just last year, a musical tribute evening was held in Jerusalem in his honor.
Both a singer and composer, Amar recorded over 20 albums throughout his career and his hits included Yismah Moshe, Shalom LeVen Dodi, Barcelona and Song of the Drunkard.
Amar is survived by his sons David and Ouri, two daughters, Esther Umanoff and Madeleine Labovitz, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
