Mayer Sets Gay Kiss Rumours Straight

John Mayer has dismissed rumours he fled a gay club after a partygoer planted a kiss on his lips - insisting he "had a blast" and found the crowd "respectful".

The singer, who has dated stars including Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson, enjoyed a night out at Toucan's Tiki Lounge in Palm Springs, California last weekend (10-11Oct09) but was hit with reports of a gay kiss.

Mayer admits he had a great time in the club but is adamant media speculation about a same-sex smooch is totally untrue.

Found the crowd even more respectful than in a straight club

In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "Rumour check went to gay bar in Palm Springs, yes. Had a blast. Danced my face off. Someone there planted a kiss on me? No.

"I don't like the story painting gays as unable to control themselves. Found the crowd even more respectful than in a straight club. You know who the most flamboyant crowd is? Straight, drunk girls. They're like a bunch of little Charles Nelson Reillys".

Mayer was previously forced to deny sharing a kiss with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton at a New Year's Eve party in New York in 2007, after the gossip king claimed to have smooched him at the bash.
