Dame Julie Andrews has warned fans not to expect too much from her duringher comeback concert in London next year (10) - because a botched throatoperation has affected her voice beyond recognition.

The Sound of Music actress, whose voice once spanned four octaves, underwent surgery in 1997 to remove non-cancerous nodules from her throat, but the procedure left her voice ravaged.

She has since worked with a voice coach to improve her singing, and she's confident she's well enough to stage her homecoming show at the U.K. capital's O2 Arena in May (10) - but she has told her fans not to expect the same sound from her.

I don't have the soprano voice I used to have, but I do have a few solid base notes I'll employ to the best of my ability

Andrews says, "They're not going to be hearing the Julie, the voice, they used to hear, of course, because, after the throat surgery, I didn't sing anymore, but I think I will have a few surprises up my sleeve. "I don't have the soprano voice I used to have, but I do have a few solid base notes I'll employ to the best of my ability".

The 74 year old admits she is just pleased to be back on the stage after so long "Although the evening is called The Gift Of Music, it's as if the gift has been given back to me".
