Katie Melua used to hate performing live. The 'Closest Thing To Crazy' singer says being on stage used to feel "unnatural"to her but she is now accustomed to being in the spotlight. She said: "I'm not one of those people who's all that comfortable with being the centre of attention so being on stage always felt - at the beginning - quite unnatural to me. I was quite an insular performer, but doing it for five years I've got used to it and actually really appreciate it now. It's become one of the things I love doing the most. "When you do well in the industry you don't get time to make as much music as you should - you spend half the time doing interviews or promoting your stuff, so being on stage in front of your fans is just amazing. It's been interesting to go on that journey, from insular performer to becoming a bit more confident and letting the audience in a little bit more."Katie plays the Glastonbury festival this weekend (29.06.08) and says she is happy not being on one of the main stages. She added to the official Glastonbury Festival website: "For my type of music, it's better listening to it in an intimate atmosphere. I've done lots of big gigs and doing the arena tour at the end of the year will be totally different to this. Somewhere like Glastonbury, there's a lot of brilliant music fans and it'll be nice to give them something different and really quite personal, so it feels really good to be doing the Avalon Stage."For a festival, generally, I would perform more up-tempo and energetic songs but then, because it's the Avalon Stage and it is quite intimate, it might be nice to go a bit more intimate too. I haven't decided yet. I'll decide on the day."
