Melua's 'titanic' Terror on Trip

Singer Katie Melua suffered a terrifying "Titanic moment" on a fact-finding trip to the Arctic when the boat she was travelling in struck an iceberg.
The Closest Thing To Crazy hitmaker headed north with a team including legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin last week (ends24Jul11) to learn about the preservation of local species and the state of the ecosystem in the area.
She told fans it was the "most exciting thing" she's ever done - but the trip almost ended in disaster when the team's boat collided twice with a block of ice at Pond Inlet, in the Arctic region of Canada, on Saturday(23Jul11).
In a post on her official blog, Melua writes, "We arrived at camp in the evening but first had an incredible ride on the boat from Pond Inlet toour camp site. On two occasions the boat hit ice and the first time a few people nearly fell out of the boat! The water seemed clear and the captain didn't spot the ice sheets, hence the close 'Titanic' moment!" Melua and Aldrin returned to Port Inlet on Sunday (24Jul11), and the singer adds, "Having reached the Arctic I can now say another dream has come true! I can also add to the list of beautiful and indescribable places of planet Earth that I've seen and that have inspired me to take action for the environment".
