Lily Allen has been getting up to all sorts recently; new man - check. New single; check. Starring role as Dr Who’s new assistant. Check!

Are you joking I hear you scream? Well no if rumours are to be believed. With the incredibly sexy new Doctor, Matt Smith we obviously need an incredibly sexy doctors assistant… okay so Lily might not tick all the boxes bless her, but she is still the frontrunner for the new job.

Executive producer Piers Wenger has even told Heatworld that; “Having got the casting of The Doctor out of the way, the companion role is where we will be looking next, someone terribly exciting like Billie Piper, who was at the beginning of her acting career, but who had a profile for other reasons, would be great.

“We are looking for someone whose light can burn brightly. We would never cast anyone on the basis of their celebrity, but if Lily wanted to audition we would be delighted. It would be a lot of fun.”

Which, if like me, you like to read between the lines of these things, means that they want Lily on board to make up for the relatively unknown new lead role. Is it just me or is Doctor Who becoming a bit partial to the female singing variety?
