Sir Paul McCartney is backing a campaign to help save London’s historical club 100 Club.
The Beatles star announced on Tuesday he would play a gig in the 300 capacity venue to help pay the funding it needs to stay open. The tickets which were sold at £60 each sold out in minutes. The owners admitted that the soaring rent in London has caused a strain on the venue, threatening it to close. McCartney said: “I've never played at the 100 Club before and it's great to be playing at a venue with so much great history that has seen so many brilliant gigs over the years. One of the reasons for playing the 100 Club, besides playing a small club gig, is so that we can be part of the campaign to help the venue stay open for a new generation of up and coming artists - like myself!” McCartney will perform at the venue tonight.
