Fans of Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela were given a shock on Friday (16Oct09), when Metallica guitarist Robert Trujillo joined the musicians onstage for a jam.

Rock legends Metallica enjoyed a day off from their current tour to catch the pair in action at Chicago, Illinois' Riviera Theatre.

Trujillo, whose mother is Mexican, had contacted guitarist Rodrigo Sanchez before the gig to arrange the collaboration.

After Trujillo brought the house down with an acoustic performance of Metallica's Orion - a song Rodrigo y Gabriela frequently cover - Sanchez 'tweeted', Amazing show at Chicago

The excited musician posted a hint to fans on his Twitter.com blog, writing, "In Chicago, and happy as f**k for a very very special guest we'll have 2nite (sic) on stage.... stay tuned my friends...... it'll kick a**".

After Trujillo brought the house down with an acoustic performance of Metallica's Orion - a song Rodrigo y Gabriela frequently cover - Sanchez 'tweeted', "Amazing show at Chicago. Robert Trujillo jammed with us on stage great fun and amazing guy he is!!"
