Country singer Mindy McCready has issued an apology for her affair with baseball ace Roger Clemens - to his wife.

In an interview with the New York Daily News last April (08), McCready confirmed the two began a 10-year affair when he was 28 and married with two children, and she was underage - a claim 46-year-old Clemens continues to deny.

On Monday (17Nov08), the singer, now 32, denied claims she ended their relationship because Clemens wouldn't marry her; and she's asking for forgiveness from his wife, Debbie.

I have nothing but remorse and... sympathy for what she's had to go through with this situation, and she has my utmost apology.

McCready tells TV reporters at Inside Edition, "I have nothing but remorse and... sympathy for what she's had to go through with this situation, and she has my utmost apology."

She adds in an interview with the New York Daily News, "I would apologise to her and say I was young. I now know better.

"I didn't want to get married to (Clemens) and I don't want to get married now. He should have done right by his family. If a person is unhappy in their marriage and spending all their personal time with someone else, you need to do right by your marriage.

"He should have just told Debbie. And been honest with her. If he didn't want to be with her and wanted to be with me, he should have told her."

McCready is no stranger to scandal. She has a long police record, often linked to her drug use, and served time in jail earlier this year (08) for violating parole stemming from an earlier drug arrest.
