Young Held Ipod Talks With Jobs

Neil Young wants to bring the sound of the '50s into the digital age - hewas helping to design a vinyl-friendly iPod with Steve Jobs before the Apple boss' death last year (11).

I talked to Steve about it

The veteran rocker is no fan of MP3s, insisting their sound quality fails to live up to the high-detail aural experience of listening to songs on vinyl discs.

He's adamant hi-tech 'lossless' files are able to preserve the quality of traditional records in a digital format - and he'd held talks with Jobs about developing a new iPod to store them on.

Young says, "The copy is very good. If that's 100 per cent (quality), now we have five per cent with MP3... Full lossless audio files would take30 minutes per album to download onto a device... I talked to Steve about it. We were working on it".

Jobs died in October (11) after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
