Nelly Furtado was forced to write her newest album in Spanish after struggling to write passionate lyrics in English.
The Canadian star got fed up of composing in English and began scribbling down songs for her upcoming fourth album, Mi Plan, in Spanish - a language she learned at 14.
She explains, "After 10 years recording in English, I hit a wall. I felt this was the moment to make the dream."
And the Maneater hitmaker, whose parents are from Portugal, admits she prefers belting out songs in Spanish or her Portuguese mother tongue: "I have always adored performing in both Portuguese and Spanish, which are both Latin languages.
I can emote better in a Latin language, so the songs have turned out more personal and intimate."
Mi Plan is scheduled for release in September (09) but the 30 year old isn't slowing down - she'll show off her linguistic skills with her next project, to be sung completely in Portuguese.
Her last album Loose was a huge hit for the singer as it produced the hit single Maneater, Mi Plan with be the fourth album for Furtado.
