An Oasis concert in Edinburgh, Scotland caused havoc for locals on Wednesday (17Jun09) when police were forced to shut down a nearby school because fans had become too rowdy.
Authorities in Lothian raised concerns about the large numbers of people gathering in the area and drinking alcohol ahead of the rockers' show at Murrayfield Stadium.
And they decided it was best to send the schoolkids home two-and-a-halfhours early for their safety.
We took the decision to close the school for the afternoon based on information we received from the police
Some parents have expressed outrage at the closure, but a spokesman for Edinburgh City Council insists it was the best decision.
The rep says, "We took the decision to close the school for the afternoon based on information we received from the police. "We also know from past experience that the area will be very busy, access will be difficult and alcohol will be sold in the area".
