Oprah Winfrey's $365,000 Gift to School

TV titan Oprah Winfrey has become a hit with students in Atlanta, Georgia - after she donated $365,000 to a school for low-in come kids.

The media mogul offered the staggering amount to ensure the city's The Ron Clark Academy has sufficient funding to continue providing education to 80 students.

Teachers at the school - which costs $14,000 -a-year per pupil - frequently combine rapping, drumming and dance in their lessons to encourage kids from low-to-middle income families to learn.

Principal Ron Clark set up the school from royalties from his best-selling book The Essential 55, and relies on donations to keep the academy op en.

And he is stunned by Winfrey's generosity.

He says, "We teach school all day and fundraise at night. To have an unsolicited gift come like that is incredible."

In a letter sent with the cheque, Winfrey praised Clark for the "profound difference you're making with your passion for teaching."
