Panic At The Disco say their new album has moved them away from the 'emo' tag.The band have been t6rying to distance themselves from the genre since their recent return to prominence and feel that the release of 'Pretty Odd' earlier this year has put a stop to questions about the sub-culture.They said: "With this new record our main goal was to make people open their eyes and view us as a band and not really as a specific trend."Guitarist Ryan Ross also admitted the band had taken a risk in turning their back on the sound which made them famous, but insisted their changing attitudes made it impossible to continue in the same vein.He explained: "Changing our sound and our image for the last album was risky, but it would have been riskier to fake something that we're not really interested in anymore and attempt to fool people into thinking that it's real."Kids are smart and they can see if you believe in what you're doing or not."'Emo' is a genre of alternative rock, with fans often sporting tight jeans and long dyed black hair. It has widely been criticised for allegedly advocating self-harm and suicide - which has been refuted by many fans and artists such as My Chemical Romance.
