Rocker Pete Doherty is facing a fresh police investigation over the deathof an actor who plunged from a balcony at a party - the man's family claim to have new evidence to prove the tragedy was an unlawful killing.

The Babyshambles star was attending a bash at an apartment in east London in December 2006 when an argument broke out among guests, leading to budding actor Mark Blanco toppling from a ledge onto the street below.

He later died in hospital from severe head injuries.

Or that he was not conscious and was dropped over the railing

Blanco's death came amid speculation that Doherty, his bodyguard Johnny'Headlock' Jeannevol, and party host Paul Roundhill were involved in theincident.

Cops ruled out suspicious circumstances and insisted Mr Blanco had either committed suicide or plunged to his death as he tried to jump on to a nearby lamp-post.

But now a neurobiology expert, hired by Blanco's family to study the death, has ruled suicide would have been "extremely unlikely".

In a new report Professor Richard Wassersug says, "It is extremely unlikely Mark jumped deliberately. Given the nature of his injuries, the two most likely explanations are that he was backed into the railing and pushed over. Or that he was not conscious and was dropped over the railing".

The Blanco family's barrister, Michael Wolkind QC, adds, "We've now moved this case from suicide or accident to unlawful killing".

Another report using computers to recreate Blanco's fall was also commissioned by the relatives.
