Soul star R. Kelly is recovering in a Chicago, Illinois hospital after undergoing emergency throat surgery.

The 'I Believe I Can Fly' singer had an abscess in a tonsil drained on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

His publicist Allan Mayer reveals Kelly will be "laid up indefinitely" at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
