Ray Davies' Konk Studios in North London are facing closure due to increasing overheads.
Considered one of the last great studios in London, Konk was established in the early 1970s by The Kinks as their private studio. The Bay City Rollers, Thin Lizzy, the Bee Gees, Depeche Mode and The Stone Roses are among the acts who have recorded there.
The two-studio set up in Crouch End is famous for its large collection of vintage instruments and recording equipment.
Davies tells Spinner.com, "The running costs have gone up and recording budgets from record companies have gone down and people record in a different way now.
"Whereas people would go in to record for six weeks, now they'll go in for maybe two days to lay down the drums and then do all the rest on recording programmes in their bedrooms at home."
