Singer Rufus Wainwright has credited his late mother Kate McGarrigle withbringing his family closer together - the star's dad made contact after years of estrangement when he learned of her cancer struggle.
Loudon Wainwright Iii and McGarrigle divorced when Rufus was just threeyears old, and the relationship between father and son has been strainedever since.
Rufus hit out at his dad in his 2003 track Dinner at Eight, while sister Martha penned the song Bloody Mother F**king A**hole about him.
He really came to the fore and protected his children and reached out to his ex-wife and made a concerted effort to bury a lot of hatchets
But when Loudon learned his ex-wife was losing her three-year battle with cancer, he dashed to her side - and Rufus is delighted the family has reconciled.
He tells London's Evening Standard, "My dad was absolutely marvellous for this whole period. He really came to the fore and protected his children and reached out to his ex-wife and made a concerted effort to bury a lot of hatchets. "As did my mother.
It wasn't like they kissed and made up and went out to dinner, but they came together finally in a beautiful way". Folk singer McGarrigle lost her fight with cancer last month (Jan10).
