Hip-hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs is facing a backlash from fans in New York after placing a studio audience on lockdown when he lost his diamond ring during a TV appearance.
The rapper joined his Dirty Money bandmates Dawn Richard and Kalenna for the Bet network's 106 and Park chart show on Tuesday (13Oct09), but the studio visit got off to a bad start when he accidentally flung his $20,000(£13,335) ring into the crowd as he threw bundles of cash into the air while making his entrance.
Combs continued filming the live show until cameras stopped rolling, when he then ordered the building be shut down and no one let out until they had been searched, reports the New York Post.
Members of the 106 and Park audience took to their Twitter.com blogs to express their anger at their treatment.
One fan posted, "Ok diddy lost his ring... and now there (sic) frisking all the kids like this is rikers (Rikers Island, New York prison)".
Another wrote, "When it was over, diddy held us hostage lookin (sic) for his ring. don't like him no more (sic)!!!" The expensive piece of jewellery was not found and Combs also headed online to air his grievances.
The craziest s**t just happened to me... I guess it's s**ting on me season... Enjoy it while it lasts
Without mentioning the incident itself, he wrote, "The craziest s**t just happened to me... I guess it's s**ting on me season... Enjoy it while it lasts!!! life is crazy!"
Marcy Polanco, a spokeswoman for Bet, confirmed the incident took place, telling the New York Post, "The audience went wild (when he threw real money into the crowd). As he was throwing the money out to the audience, his ring flew off".
Combs has yet to officially comment on the lost ring.
