Dame Shirley Bassey was once considered for the lead role in 1968 movie Oliver! - but was rejected by studio bosses.The Welsh diva was put forward to play Nancy in the classic movie by its director Sir Carol Reed - but studio bosses favoured actress Shani Williams.A source tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "The film's director Sir Carol Reed really wanted Shirley for the part but studio bosses were against the idea."In the end Reed reluctantly had to compromise and accepted Shani for the role, so the audiences never got to see Shirley playing the part".
