Australian Sophie Monk Splits from Warner Bros

POP star Sophie Monk has split with global recording giant Warner Music, following in the footsteps of Taxiride, The Superjesus and fellow former Bardot member Tiffani Wood.Sophie's the blonde beauty from Queensland who was training to be an opera singer before being derailed from her classical path by a stint as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator and a growing passion for pop music.Ms. Monk is negotiating with another major record label, and is ready to sign a contract to appear in a network television program. Apparently Sophie became very concerned when Warner started downsizing its roster," Monk's manager, David Caplice, was reported as saying. This news was then made more serious when the head of Warner, Shaun James with whom Sophie had a very strong relationship left the company. So basically it was decision time, with Warner saying that there were two options: Sophie remains, or she is released from contract.Sophie and her management chose the latter as both parties agreed that with the current turmoil at Warner, it was not the ideal place for a developing artist such as Sophie.Monk became famous as a member of pop group, Bardot, whose first album sold more than 140,000 copies. The group was formed as part of the pre-Australian Idol TV series, Popstars. Her debut solo album, Calendar Girl, sold about 45,000 copies, while album singles reached the Top 40.
