Clubber Opens Up About Gately's Death

The clubber who found Stephen Gately's lifeless body has recalled his shock at the moment he realised the Boyzone singer had died.

Georgi Dochev, 25, met Gately and Andrew Cowles in a club in Majorca, Spain in the early hours of Saturday (10Oct09) and, apparently unaware of the singer's fame, he accompanied them back to their home.

The trio carried on drinking and chatting until the Bulgarian moved to a bedroom to rest, leaving the pair on the sofa, according to the official statement he gave authorities which has been obtained by Britain's Daily Star newspaper.

The student suggested Cowles probably slept beside the Boyzone star while he was dead, and later moved to another bedroom to sleep.

When Dochev awoke in the afternoon, he sat on the sofa and began smoking a cigarette until he noticed the singer wasn't moving.

The statement reads "He (Dochev) sits next to the boy on the sofa and,looking at him, gets the feeling something is wrong as he was very motionless and he could see no breathing movements or little snores. He then took him by the hand and tried to wake him up without success.

"He headed quickly to the partner of the dead boy's bedroom and woke him up, saying something was wrong with his partner as he was not reacting...

"On sitting him up, they saw his lips and face were blue and that a liquid was coming out of his mouth. As they thought that it was possible he had swallowed his tongue, his partner put a finger in his mouth. And, at that moment, they realised he was dead so they called the emergency services".

A post-mortem examination has ruled the No Matter What star died from a build-up of fluid on his lungs.

Dochev has been invited to the star's funeral, which will take place inDublin, Ireland on Saturday (17Oct09), but he has told reporters he's still unsure whether he will attend because of the media speculation surrounding his relationship with Gately.
