Chairman Fuming Over Boyle's Brit Awards Snub

The chairman of the U.K.'s Brit Awards has hit out at his fellow board members for failing to nominate Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle for a prize, branding the move "a crime".

The nominees for the annual awards, which celebrate the best in British music over the previous 12 months, were announced on Monday (18Jan10), with Florence and The Machine and Lily Allen leading the pack with three nods apiece.

But Ged Doherty, the Brit Awards chairman and head of Boyle's record label, Sony, insists the TV talent show star, whose album debut I Dreamed ADream, has sold eight million copies around the world in just two months, should have been a definite for the Best Album category.

He says, "I think it's a crime. I can't explain it. Every year there issomething the academy gets wrong and this year they got that wrong".

The Brit Awards nominees are voted for by 1,000 British music industry insiders.

The Brits will be held in London next month (Feb10).
