The Ting Tings have admitted they were once so bad live, singer Katie White didn't know how to switch on her guitar. The band have recently topped the UK singles chart with 'That's Not My Name' but drummer Jules De Martino has admitted they didn't always sound so polished. He revealed: "We did our first proper gig at the Birmingham Barfly. It was where Katie picked up a guitar for the first time - but she couldn't get a sound out."She had to ask the audience what to do and they shouted back: 'Turn the amp on.'"Jules produced the band's album, 'We Started Nothing', himself and admits it wasn't quite as professional as drafting in a producer would have been.He added to Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "What it takes some bands to do in six months we can do in a week. I'm not technically trained so I was doing everything wrong."I was sticking cheap microphones on the floor to record my drums and Katie was sat singing on a chair with a pneumatic drill going off outside."I didn't care if it was wrong as long as it sounded good."
