Azealia Banks has spoken out about her former record label, saying they weren't "cool enough" to "understand" her music.

The rapper parted ways with Universal Music Group earlier this year after she expressed her dislike of them on Twitter, and she's revealed it was "crippling" to work with them.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph newspaper she explained: "I guess they were more excited by the idea of me than my actual music. They were excited by the idea of this cool girl who was going to make all this cool music, but they weren't cool enough to understand it."

She claims that whilst she enjoys the expensive facilities to begin with, she grew tired of constantly having to please the corporate bosses.

"I was working on whatever I wanted in all best studios, all hours of the day and night whenever I wanted it, in whatever city I wanted. It was nice."

Explaining her Twitter messages, she added: "I was hurting. It was crippling."

However, she's now gone on to release her debut album 'Broke With Expensive Taste' and is looking forward to remaining unpredictable.

On what's next, Azealia said: "Just get bigger and better. That's all I want to do now."
