The emo band split in 2013 but have now hinted at getting back together after a cryptic Twitter post.

They teased fans with a 30-second video, which was accompanied to the piano intro from the band's 2006 hit song 'The Black Parade', as a flag waves slowly in the wind.

The clip ended with the date '9/23/16', most likely signalling the release date for a new album.

It is the first tweet to appear on their account since April 2015.

My Chemical Romance announced its break up in 2013 in an statement written by the band's front man, Gerard Way.

He said: "We were spectacular. Every show I knew this, every show I felt it with or without external confirmation. And all of the things that made us great were the very things that were going to end us."

Gerard has since gone onto release his own solo music, with his debut LP 'Hesitant Album' coming out in 2014.

However, he admitted that he missed the extravagance of the group's stage shows.

Speaking of his live shows, he said: "I definitely miss the theatricality of it a little bit.

"Now that I've gotten not doing something theatrical out of my system, I feel like it would be nice to get back into concepts again, maybe explore some more visual stuff."
