The 68-year-old musician's new 10-minute single 'Blackstar' will receive its first play in the clip, directed by Johan Renck, when it is broadcast on Sky Atlantic at 8.45pm.

The track, which is taken from the singer's new album of the same name, features in the opening credits of Sky/Canal+ drama 'The Last Panthers', although the full version will air shortly before the second episode of the show.

His 25th album will be released through RCA on January 8 2016, which will be his 69th birthday.

'Blackstar' comes three years after the release of 'The Next Day' in 2013, which was his first album in a decade and topped charts around the world.

The seven-song LP was recorded at the Magic Shop studio in New York according to the Times newspaper, which described the track as "completely bonkers" and revealed it contains "Gregorian chants, a soul section, various electronic beats and bleeps and Bowie's distinctive vocals."

However it looks unlikely fans will be treated to a live version of any of the tracks as promoter John Giddings recently claimed David had personally told him he will never return to touring.

He said: "David is one of the best artists I've ever worked with.

"But every time I see him now, before I even speak to him, he goes, 'I'm not touring' and I say, 'I'm not asking'.

"He has decided to retire and, like Phil Collins, you can't demand these people go out there again and again and again."
