Spotify's Chief Content & Chief Strategy Officer, Stefan Blom explained: "Drake has been unstoppable this year - he's a true global superstar.

"With the top album and the top song this year, as well as his successful Summer Sixteen tour, Drake continues to engage his fans in a way that only Drake can; it's no surprise he is dominating the music industry."

Coming in at the top, Drake was followed by Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Coldplay and Twenty One Pilots to make up the top 5 most-streamed male artists of the year. When it comes to the ladies, Rihanna was at the top of the list, followed by Sia, Adele, Ariana Grande and Beyonce.

Dance music dominated Spotify UK charts this year, with tracks including 'One Dance' by Drake and 'I Took A Pill in Ibiza' by Mike Posner slotting into the top five most-streamed songs of the year.

Spotify also claim users listened to more new music and new artists than ever before, with Zayn Malik becoming the top breakout artist across the globe. The top five global breakout artists list saw Zayn followed by FRENSHIP, Anne-Marie, Madeintyo and Rob $tone.
