Kate Nash has said as an artist, Miley Cyrus should be able to do whatever she likes.

Nash simply can't comprehend why the 'We Can't Stop' hitmaker's twerking and raunchy performance with Robin Thicke caused such a massive media stir at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Kate, 26, insists many other pop stars have performed similar routines without causing such a commotion and she believes 20-year-old Miley - who appeared naked in her 'Wrecking Ball' video - is just expressing herself as a young musician.

When quizzed about Miley's VMAs antics, Kate exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "If Miley wants to do that then that is what she should be doing. My only advice would be to never sacrifice yourself and your level of comfort.

"It's funny how people get so shocked, there are loads of pop stars who have been there and done that. It's weird (the reaction), because we're sort of living in a desensitised time where we've seen everything."

Kate insists she would never tell Miley or any other singer what she should do, and is adamant that Miley's family and close trusted friends are the only people who should offer advice to the former 'Hannah Montana' star - who was offered words of wisdom by Sinead O'Connor this week in an open letter, advice she chose to throw back in Sinead's face by criticising her on Twitter.

Kate said: "It's none of my business to be concerned about someone I don't know but she might be having a laugh, I don't know, but the people that need to be concerned about her are the same people that need to be concerned about me like my family and my friends and the people that care about me."

Kate Nash's tour starts on October 10 - tickets are available at Myignorantyouth.com - and her 'Fri-End' EP is released on October 22.
