Billboard has confirmed that Katy Perry is to perform at the next Super Bowl halftime show.

Speculated since August after she was reportedly shortlisted by the National Football League alongside Rihanna and Coldplay, sources now claim she has been chosen for the major job.

Speaking this past Saturday after some controversy surrounding artists paying to play the event, Katy appeared on ESPN's College Game Day and insisted: "I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."

The NFL has so far declined to comment.

Katy will follow Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers who lit the stage up this year, but the band faced trouble when they admitted their instruments weren't plugged in during the performance.

Super Bowl XLIX takes place in Glendale, Arizona on February 1, 2015.
