The 22-year-old singer co-wrote 'The Night We Met' for Irish boy band HomeTown and he has excitedly taken to social media to share the pop song, which is his first musical offering since his band announced they are taking a break from music.

Posting a video on Twitter on Monday (21.12.15), he teased: "Hey everyone almost Christmas. Check out this song I did with hometown and Jamie Scott ... listen loud and enjoy! (sic)"

HomeTown are managed by former 'The X Factor' judge Louis Walsh and are signed to RCA records.

Made up of Brendan Murray, Cian, Morrin, Dayl Cronin, Dean Gibbons, Josh Gray and Ryan McLoughlin, their sound isn't a far cry from One Direction's own music, much to the delight of many 'Directioners'.

After watching the video for 'The Night We Met' on YouTube, one 1D fan posted: "Here cos of Liam but staying for their songs. (sic)"

Liam and his One Direction bandmates, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, are set to take a two-year break from the band after releasing five albums in four years and touring the world virtually non-stop.
