The 'I Want It That Way' hitmaker has given the biggest indication yet that the possibility of a joint tour between the two groups was once on the cards.

Speaking on 103.5 KTU's Cubby & Carolina radio show, he said: "Plans kind of fizzled out. From what I've heard, they want to do their own tour. I think it's their 20th anniversary, we're back in the studio making a brand new album, so everyone's doing their own thing.

"God willing, down the road, maybe it could happen. But as of right now it's not happening. They're doing their thing, we're focusing on our thing. But I think it would be something awesome if it did happen."

Meanwhile, Mel B previously revealed the 'Wannabe' hitmakers are trying to "figure out" how they can have a reunion to mark 20 years since their debut album 'Spice' was released.

She said: "It's an ongoing thing we keep talking about and it is our 20th anniversary, so we're going to do something. We're just trying to figure that out right now.

"We want the stage to ourselves if we're going to do it! But, I love the Backstreet Boys. They're great."

And Mel also recently confirmed she had met up with two of her former bandmates, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton, to discuss reunion plans.

She said: "I landed yesterday and I met up with a few of my 'spicies' and we were doing a big time reminisce. It's nice that we're all still friends and we're supportive of each other 20 years on ... I have such fun memories of all that stuff.

"We definitely want to do something because it's a celebration of us still doing our thing 20 years on and us being a part of each other, so we'll see what happens. We're all just kind of in talks right now - I had a nice cup of tea with Geri and Emma last night, which was lovely."
