Miley Cyrus is in trouble after she was spanked on the backside with Mexico's national flag by one of her dancers.

The on-stage move took place during an Independence Day performance as the 21-year-old performed in Monterrey in the northern state of Nuevo Leon.

A warrant has now been approved for the Interior Ministry to enforce the law on the singer by the state legislature, meaning the star or her team could be fined up to around $1,200 (£736) or be detained for a day and a half.

Regularly grabbing headlines for her 'bad behaviour', Miley has made a name for herself as of late by courting controversy and hitting back at those who oppose her.

Signs of disrespect for national symbols is a very sensitive issue which Mexican authorities don't look lightly on.

Paulino Rubio was fined in 2008 for posing naked wrapped in the country's flag - the same could now happen to Miley.
