The former Pussycat Dolls star is eager to get started on her third studio album but admitted it might be a while before anyone hears new music from her because she intends to take her time to make something "really classic".

She explained: "This December I'm back in the studio working on a new album and I want it to be really classic. I don't want it to be trendy. It's exciting."

The 37-year-old singer released her second record 'Big Fat Lie' last year but it failed to perform well commercially, only reaching number 17 in the UK album charts, which led to her being dropped by her label RCA Records.

A source said at the time: "There is the feeling that Nicole didn't get the support she needed on the release to make it a success.

"Fans have been grumbling that they didn't think the right singles were released by the record label."

The 'Don't Hold Your Breath' hitmaker has since enjoyed forays into musical theatre and TV but admitted she would have chosen a more obscure career if she hadn't made it in showbiz.

Speaking on ITV's 'This Morning' about what job she'd like to do, she said: "I'd be a whale whisperer of some sorts, just like you can be a dog whisperer.

"In another life I'd love to have been a professional surfer, I'm a really bad surfer. I do it but badly."
