Rylan Clark has bagged himself a record deal.

The 'X Factor' star - who was branded a "joke" by judge Gary Barlow in 2012 - has landed himself a deal with Universal and is planning to release a dance single.

A friend told The Sun newspaper: "Despite the abuse Rylan got from Gary Barlow about his voice, he has always wanted to release music.

"The tracks are dance-orientated so it is fair to say there will be some auto-tuning going on.

"He feels now is the time to get back into music as well as TV stuff. He's looking to put out the first track later this year under a different name to test the water. He is pretty confident people will like it."

After finding fame on the ITV singing competition two years ago, Rylan, 25, went on to win 'Celebrity Big Brother' in January 2013, before landing a hosting gig on Channel 5's 'Big Brother's Bit On the Side.'

It was rumoured earlier this year that the comedian was also being lined up alongside presenter Laura Whitmore, 28, to take over hosting duties from Caroline Flack and Matt Richardson on the 'X Factor' spin-off show, 'The Xtra Factor'.

However, Sarah-Jane Crawford was later confirmed to have bagged herself the job.
