Sam Smith has admitted he wouldn't be able to have taken Madonna's tumble in the way she did - instead he would have "cried and crawled off stage".

The singer insists he wouldn't be able to "power through" like she did when she suffered a nasty fall during the ceremony and her performance of new single 'Living For Love'.

Speaking to Stylist magazine he explained: "I used to fall up the escalator on the tube all the time. I'd do what every guy does and look back as if there's something wrong with the ground.

"I like to think if I'd been like Madonna and fallen at the BRITs I'd have powered through, but chances are I'd have cried and crawled off stage."

He also revealed his plans to now get back into "work mode" after celebrating his huge awards haul from the BRITs and the Grammys.

"The BRITs was amazing but I feel like I've celebrated enough now.

"Since the Grammys I've had a couple of weeks flapping about not actually writing any music, it's time to get back into work mode."

Despite recovering from his BRITs hangover by "eating cheese", Sam was forced to cancel his gig in Milan, Italy after falling ill with laryngitis.

"I'm sorry to any fans in Milan tonight and to all who have travelled from abroad. I have laryngitis. I promise I will make it up to you x

"Milan I'm back in June and I will sing the hardest I've ever sung. That's a promise x (sic)".
