Sam Smith wants to write songs that aren't about love.

The 'Stay With Me' hitmaker's debut album 'In The Lonely Hour' was inspired by his love for a man but he's revealed he wants to make music about more than just one emotion.

He explained: "This industry is really strange - the more money you make, the more free things you then get given.

"You're not getting Tube trains any more, you're getting nice cars everywhere, you're meeting nice people...everything's nice. So how do you make a record that relates?

"I think that's why people turn to love.

"But I'd like to challenge myself and think there are other things that are relatable about me."

The 22-year-old star - who admits he went through a phase of thinking he was Lady Gaga - wants his new track, 'I'm Not The Only One', to empower women to stand up to men who treat them badly.

He explained to The Sun newspaper: "The song is from a female perspective.

"I got very passionate about cheating recently. I want girls to feel it's stupid for letting cheating happen.

"I love women so much.

"My family is full of powerful women - my mum was the one who worked.

"I'm very passionate about feminism and I want girls to just get up and walk out."
