The Script experimented with "hardcore rap" for their new album.
The 'Hall of Fame' singers - consisting of Danny O'Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power - decided to step outside of their comfort zone while recording their fourth album 'No Sound without Silence' and made a surprising foray into the rap and reggae genres.
Danny told Digital Spy: "There was everything in between. Some hardcore ... I'm going to say hardcore rap songs, and then some songs with just the guitar.
"We messed around with a lot of different sounds. What you get on the album is one foot in Ireland with the Irish melodies, but also one foot in the UK and America with the production and where music is going."
The revelation marks a huge departure from the trademark pop-rock sound which has gained the group three platinum selling albums in the UK.
The band's trial of a new sound even inspired the title of their album, which is due for release in September.
Danny explained: "There was a very fast song - it never made the album - but it was called 'No Sound without Silence' and was uptempo reggae. It was at 160bpm and was kind of Police-y ska."
Lead guitarist Mark disappointingly added that this more adventurous effort didn't make the cut for the album, but they named the record after the track.
He said: "[It was] a drum and bass rock song, if you can imagine that? It could have gone on there, but when the newer songs arrived it didn't. It didn't really sound like us."
