Ed Sheeran is hoping to record with a band for his next album.

Achieving worldwide success as a solo artist, Ed has in the past recorded with just an acoustic guitar and small range of effects.

Now he's sold over a million copies of second record 'X' in the UK and wants to experiment on his third LP - ready to hire backing musicians to add new flavour to his music.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper he explained: "In my head I've always seen the third record as where I get a band. The first gig we did on this tour was the Barfly in London, so I've gone from the Barfly to Wembley with a loop pedal. After that there's not much you can do with a loop pedal."

He does however insist that he won't be putting together a traditional rock group with guitar, bass and drums, instead planning on having several backing musicians like his idol Justin Timberlake.

"I watched Justin at the V Festival this year. You either don't have a band or you have a band like that, you go for it or you don't."
