Akon has revealed he is secretly working on Country and Western material.

The R 'n' B singer says he has been collaborating on songs with a number of unnamed artists and is now considering releasing his own Country tracks.

He says his contributions have gone undetected as he has been working under a pseudonym.

I was trying to shock the world with that.

He told MTV: "I was trying to shock the world with that.

"I've been doing some writing and producing for some country artists but I've been going under an alias, so no one knows I'm doing it.

"Depending on those records, how well they do, I might just come out with one album.

"I just want to see if I can conquer this side of things".

The Senegalese-American singer has made over 145 guest appearances on songs by artists including Gwen Stefani, Young Jeezy and Michael Jackson.Akon's most recent single, 'I Can't Wait', was released on download last month.
