Bobby Womack has revealed he is suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

The soul legend has been battling the form of dementia for a while now and admits he struggles to recall his songs and co-stars' names.

He told The Sun newspaper: "The doctor says there are signs of Alzheimer's, it's not bad yet but will get worse.

"How can I not remember songs I wrote? It's frustrating.

"I don't feel together yet. Negative things come in my mind and it's hard for me to remember sometimes."

The 68-year-old star - who beat colon cancer in May - recently worked with Damon Albarn on the album 'The Bravest Man In The Universe' and he admits he's worried he will forget Damon's surname.

He said: "The most embarrassing thing is I'll be ready to announce Damon and can't remember his last name."

Bobby was also approached by Damon to appear on the third Gorillaz album 'Plastic Beach' and he claimed the move helped him pull through his cancer battle.

He said: "During the time I was ill in hospital, the thing that kept me alive was Damon. He was really interested in me. I was like, 'Times have changed - I could be in a wheelchair or have no voice.' He said, 'We'll take a shot. I want you to sing on the Gorillaz album.' That's what brought me back to life."

    Dear Mr. B. Womack:

Your music has been an inspiration and a soulful journey for my husband and I and we have enjoyed it for many years. I thank God that He gives us hope and in that hope should be faith, so I thank our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who went to the cross for us that every sickness, disease, infirmative was nailed there. I thank you Father that Your Healing Power is far greater than any demonic thing that attempts to attach itself to a child of the living God!

I thank you Father that as I speak his mind will be renewed

    In Jesus Name
