Daniel Merriweather had barely heard the song that shot him to fame.
Despite an initial hostile response to the track, the 'Change' singer was delighted when he began to win round fans
The Australian star provided vocals on Mark Ronson's hit 'Stop Me' - a reworking of The Smiths' classic 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' - but admits he had only heard the original track once before the producer played it to him.
He said: "Mark said, 'I want you to sing on my favourite Smiths song' so I listened to it. I'd heard it once before but I was never a Smiths fan. But I thought it was beautiful."
Despite an initial hostile response to the track, the 'Change' singer was delighted when he began to win round fans.
He added: "Mark had a few death threats via MySpace but I only ever got positive feedback.
"A lot of guys came up to me saying, 'I'm a huge Smiths fan and I hated it when it first came out but now I love it.' "
