David Bowie's Ziggy denial

David Bowie has branded rumours he is set to perform as Ziggy Stardust as "poppycock".

The British singer has denied he will be resurrecting the character for a live performance of his classic 1972 album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars' in its entirety at this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.

A statement on Bowie's official website said: I'm sure the majority of you saw this tale for what it was anyway - poppycock

A mystery blogger had made the claim under the star's name on popular social networking site Twitter.

A statement on Bowie's official website said: "I'm sure the majority of you saw this tale for what it was anyway - poppycock.

"However, we feel duty-bound to deny this particular story, lest members be fleeced of their hard-earned.

"While we're about it, David Bowie does not have a Twitter account."

Bowie retired his alter ego on stage in London in 1973.
