Elbow say collaborating with an orchestra is like "flying on Concorde".
The 'Grounds For Divorce' group were over-awed before their first rehearsal with Manchester-based ensemble Halle because they were so renowned for their abilities.
Frontman Guy Garvey said: "I've grown up knowing all about them. Playing with the Halle is like flying on Concorde or driving a Rolls Royce - it's class. I had that shaky, adrenaline-y, nerves thing, which makes you more emotional."
A lot of the songs we've chosen are the emotional, weighty ones anyway. This is something I will tell my grandchildren about when I take them to the orchestra.
The band will play two dates at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall in July with the classical group and composer Joe Duddell.
The 35-year-old frontman says he is proud to be working on such an emotive performance.
He explained: "A lot of the songs we've chosen are the emotional, weighty ones anyway. This is something I will tell my grandchildren about when I take them to the orchestra."
