Eoghan Quigg wants to compose his own songs - but can't play an instrument yet.

The 16-year-old star - who shot to fame on TV talent show 'The X Factor' - wants to improve his guitar skills so he can feature some of his own compositions on his next album.

If something comes into my head I'll write about it. I've not worked with any songwriters or anything yet. It's just me with a guitar, just sort of picking up stuff and seeing what happens.

He told BANG showbiz: "I don't really use the guitar live, I don't really play that much, I can just play a few chords and stuff. But, you know, in summer I'll definitely learn the rest of it and get doing my own thing.

The Irish singer- whose self-titled titled debut album includes his favourite cover versions, as well as '28,000 Friends', a track written by former Busted star James Bourne - also revealed when he does start writing, he could take an angsty new direction.

He added: "I just write about whatever comes into my head and if I have a problem or if there's something bothering me then that would probably be the reason I'm playing."

When asked if he would compose any songs to impress girls, he became coy, but said: "It's possible. I've never yet composed a love song for anyone yet but we'll see what happens... maybe."
