Franz Ferdinand received a trans-Atlantic offer to support Green Day.
The Scottish rockers were invited to support the US stars on their forthcoming American tour via an email sent by a mutual friend in Japan.
Singer Alex Kapranos explained: "It was through a friend of mine in Japan, she sent me an email and she said 'My boyfriend's band are really into your band and they want to do some shows with you.'
"She goes out with Tre Cool, who's the drummer in Green Day. I was like, 'Oh, yeah I know those guys.' We met them years ago at the BRIT awards and we hung out. They seemed like nice guys."
Alex says Franz Ferdinand - also consisting of Nicholas McCarthy, Robert Hardy and Paul Thomson - have been fans of the US rockers since they first saw them several years ago.

He added to BBC Newsbeat: "Some old friends of mine from Glasgow put them on years and years ago when they were a little punk band touring around the country. They're a good band, they've definitely paid their dues."
Meanwhile Green Day have revealed they are planning to play an intimate concert in New York next Monday (18.05.09).
The concert will be open exclusively to members of their official fan club 'Idiot Club'.
