Jack White and Alison Mosshart "accidently" formed their band Dead Weather.
The White Stripes star and The Kills singer - who are joined by Queens of the Stoneage rocker Dean Fertitia and The Raconteurs star Jack Lawrence to make up rock quartet - have revealed their new musical project came about by chance.
The record sounds exactly the way it does when we play
Alison said: "It was like a really good accident. We just liked playing together, so we carried on doing it and all of a sudden we had a record… it was so quick!"
Despite all his other musical ventures, Jack insists Dead Weather is unlike any of his other projects.
Jack said: "When I was writing with Brendan Benson in the Raconteurs, it was more relaxed and poppy. There was a lot of structure and craftsmanship to those songs - which is an aspect of writing that I really enjoyed exploring. Dead Weather isn't like that at all, it's so guttural and dirty and forceful. It's great to be able to have that juxtaposition."
Alison has also revealed she is thrilled with the "honesty" of their new tracks.
She explained to Britain's The Times newspaper: "The way that Dead Weather plays is honest. The record sounds exactly the way it does when we play. Who does that these days? That's what I want from my bands… to know how good they really are."
