Caleb Followill was frightened by 'Use Somebody'.

The Kings of Leon frontman pretended the track - which was placed second in the UK charts - didn't exist because he was terrified of how successful it could become.

He said: "I've always been scared of songs being these big crossover hits. Like with 'Use Somebody'. I wrote the melody and all of us related to it, it felt like this big song. So I kind of pushed it under the rug. Then we were making 'Only By The Night' and Matt kept saying, where's that song about using somebody? I would act like I didn't know what he meant. I knew the song he was talking about, but it scared me."

It was four guys that were really uncomfortable and trying to make people think that they were comfortable

The band - consisting of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill - have gained a huge British following since the release of their debut album 'Youth and Young Manhood' in 2003.

However, Caleb insists the rockers have not always been confident in their musical ability.

He explained to music website Mojo: "We got thrown right in - thrown to the wolves. All these bands we toured with, some of them were 30 years old, and here's my little brother Jared, aged 15, on the bass. We would pump ourselves up every night. And so, night by night, we would do something a little closer to being, you know, a confident band.

"We wore our guitars really high because we didn't know how to play our instruments good enough, so we had to watch our hands. It looked like a shtick but it wasn't. It was four guys that were really uncomfortable and trying to make people think that they were comfortable."
