Robert Smith will celebrate his 50th birthday by working on his solo album.

The Cure frontman reaches the landmark age in April and admits that he considers working on his side project every time he has a milestone birthday, but will try and complete the record this year.

He said: "I may have another go at completing my solo album this year. It's been about 10 years since I last tried to finish it.

The singer also revealed he has been looking back over his 3- year career and found the experience terrifying

"Every time I turn a big-number birthday I look to my solo album, dust off the box, lift out the old cassette tapes.

"It's more of an autobiographical, growing-up thing. Maybe I'm scared to finish it."

The singer also revealed he has been looking back over his 3- year career and found the experience "terrifying".

He added: "We're doing this DVD 'History of' going through everything I've taped and photographed during the 30 years. It's like being a drowning man sometimes, watching this stuff. It's terrifying how fast life goes."
